Photocatalysis module for the treatment of potable water.

In developed industrialized countries, drinking water is the most closely monitored foodstuff and is therefore safe to consume. New challenges are arising in raw water treatment as a result of rising nitrate levels in groundwater, pesticides in surface water and the risk of increasing bacteriological contamination in distribution networks due to higher ambient temperatures as a result of climate change. On a global scale, the main focus is on ensuring a sufficient and sustainable supply of microbiologically safe water for humans and agriculture. As the overuse of natural freshwater reserves from groundwater and surface water is increasing, re-use strategies and desalination technologies are becoming increasingly important. IKTS has technology components (electrodes, AOP processes, sensors, membranes, combined systems) and application expertise for this purpose.

Areas of application

  • Disinfection
  • Detection and removal of micropollutants and microplastics
  • Optimization of flocculation and dewatering processes
  • Sludge treatment
