The “Technology Economics and Sustainability Analysis” department is concerned with the investigation and evaluation of technologies in terms of their economic, ecological and social impact. The scientific focus is on analyzing the opportunities and risks of technology-based business models and evaluating technological innovations in order to promote the development and implementation of economically viable and environmentally friendly technologies. We support companies and organizations in transformation processes, improve their innovation processes and help them to operate successfully in new fields of technology. This provides decision-makers in business and politics with well-founded analyses and recommendations for promoting sustainable technologies and practices. Using empirical research methods and mathematical, economic and process engineering simulation models, value creation paths and transformation scenarios are mapped and quantitatively evaluated. The interdisciplinary team conducts research with a regional focus, such as on the energy-intensive industry in Saxony-Anhalt. There is close cooperation with chemical parks, the hydrogen economy in Central Germany and players in the bioeconomy. Intensive cooperation with other specialist areas is essential in order to develop comprehensive solutions that take technical, economic and social aspects into account.
