InterBattery is considered the world's premier trade fair for the battery industry. Leading players along the entire value chain - from materials to cell production and recycling - take part and present their latest technologies.

Fraunhofer IKTS will be showcasing its range of technologies and expertise for the development, manufacture and production of mobile and stationary energy storage systems up to industrial maturity. In particular, we will be presenting research in the field of lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries based on sodium and current results from the field of recycling technologies and material recovery.

Ceramic and recycling technologies for the batteries of the future

Ceramic materials play a crucial role in the development of high-performance lithium-ion batteries, sodium-based batteries and ceramic catalysts for metal-air batteries and ceramic alkaline-ion conductors.

Fraunhofer IKTS works on industrial process development, from the synthesis and preparation of active materials up to the pilot production of entire systems.

In addition, Fraunhofer IKTS uses state-of-the-art equipment and analysis technology to investigate the electrochemical behavior and ageing of battery cells in order to optimize their reliability and efficiency.

By developing efficient recycling concepts for lithium-ion batteries, it is helping to ensure that energy storage systems are not only technically and economically convincing, but also environmentally friendly and sustainable in terms of production.

Fraunhofer IKTS manufactures test cells and electrode coils for lithium-ion batteries on a pilot scale.

Mobile energy storage systems are essential for a reliable and flexible energy supply - from electromobility up to portable devices. Fraunhofer IKTS develops mobile electrochemical energy storage systems such as conventional lithium-ion batteries and conducts research into next-generation batteries such as solid-state batteries based on lithium or sodium.

The Battery Technology Application Center covers the entire value chain from material development to production, supplemented by inline testing procedures and long-term analyses.

Stationary energy storage systems are essential for a sustainable energy supply. Fraunhofer IKTS develops innovative solid-state batteries with ceramic electrolytes, especially sodium-based ones, as well as ceramic catalysts for metal-air batteries and ceramic alkaline-ion conductors.

One focus is on the extrusion of Na-ß''-aluminate solid-state electrolytes, which represent a key technology for high-performance and long-lasting battery systems.

Using state-of-the-art production and analysis technology, the institute researches new production processes, optimizes operational stability and develops Industry 4.0-capable process monitoring solutions.
