In view of the marketability of green hydrogen, sufficient pure water must be available for production. Cost-effective water treatment processes are therefore becoming increasingly important, particularly in decentralized applications. Depending on the location of the electrolyser, this concerns the desalination of seawater on the one hand and the treatment of industrial process water on the other.
Fraunhofer IKTS combines classic ceramic membrane technology with electrochemical, sonochemical and photocatalytic-based processes and integrates these into modular system concepts. This makes it possible to create solutions for decentralized water treatment and increase local value creation.
