250 kW Fuel Cell Power Plant Supplies Federal Ministry of Education and Research With Power
The new building captivates particularly through its innovative energy concept. Thanks to a fuel cell power plant as the heart of modern energy supply provided by the Dresden company FuelCell Energy Solutions GmbH approximately 100.000 kWh of electrical power will be generated per year. Due to its sustainability and its efficiency, the newly constructed building complex of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research earned the highest reward level ‘gold’.

At the opening ceremony on November 25/2014 the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research officially finished and celebrated the opening of its new office building. The new construction captivates particularly through its innovative energy concept. The energy supply of the building complex is partially ensured with a gas-fired fuel cell power plant provided by FuelCell Energy Solutions GmbH. The power plant produces power and heat with an electrical efficiency of 47 %. Compared to traditional generation systems, gas savings of approximately 30 % can be achieved with the help of electrochemical conversion via fuel cells. Due to its sustainability and its efficiency, the newly constructed building complex of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research earned the highest reward level ‘gold’ according to the classification system ‘Sustainable Construction of Federal Buildings’.
