Signing of the financing contract for Jena institute of energy
Thuringia's Minister for Education, Science and Culture, Christoph Matschie and CEO of the Ernst Abbe Foundation, Professor Jens Goebel have signed the financing contract for the newly constructed Research Centre for Energy and Environmental Chemistry CEEC in Jena on Monday, July 15, 2013.
"The new Center for Energy and Environmental Engineering is part of our research initiative 'E hoch 4'. It's about to be a pioneer in research and development of renewable energies. Energy efficiency and energy storage play a central role. The new Energy Institute CEEC looks for solutions for the future," said Minister Matschie.
The new research center "CEEC – Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry" is operated jointly by the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS with its sites in Dresden and Hermsdorf. Prospectively, up to 20 working groups will be active at the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry.
The new research building will be located in Jena, Max-Wien-Platz. In the immediate vicinity of the Center for Applied Research (ZAF), around 1,200 m² of new research space will be created. The costs of construction of the building include approximately 14.5 million Euro. These funds come from donations of the Land to the Ernst Abbe Foundation in the amount of 10 million Euro. Further four million Euro are contributed by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. The costs of the initial technical equipping amounting to approximately 500,000 Euro come from state funds. Moreover, the Land contributes the ground.
The constructional works will begin with the development of the construction zone in the fall of this year. From spring 2014, the new building will be constructed.
